RARE SCHAFER & VATER "SPIRITUALLY UPLIFTING" 11-1/2" DECANTER MUSIC BOX, SHOT GLASSES, & TRAY SET
Gustav Schaefer and Guenther Vater founded the Schaefer & Vater Porcelain Factory in Thuringa, Germany in 1890. Their aim was to make high quality porcelain. By 1910 the American firm of Sears Roebuck & Company had begun to import and distribute Schafer & Vater pottery into the United States.
Schafer & Vater produced a wide range of hard paste porcelain and was to include luxury items, figurines, and dolls' heads. They also produced soft paste porcelain in bisque items and Majolica and Jasperware were other produce lines. They produced many figural liquor bottles for distribution by pubs including the rare and scarce Decanter Music Box.
Rarely ever seen is this fine early 1900's Schafer & Vater Decanter Music Box. Finding one as a match Set with shot glasses and Tray is a real fine.
This Decanter, which measures 11-1/2" tall, has been decorated in shades of yellow/brown. She is marked on the front side, in bold incised lettering; "Spiritually Uplifting". The Decanter depicts a Monk pouring himself a glass of wine. The rest of the Set includes 4 matched double faced Shot Glasses, each about 1-3/4" tall and a matching 11" Tray. The Shot glasses display a smiling face on one side....and a grumpy face on the opposite side.
The Decanter is in very good shape and is totally entact with the original top insert. Most important is that the Music Box works. The Decanter, Shot Glasses, and Tray are totally damaged free.,
The underside advertises the Music Box...."Say It With Sprague, New York"....with an added "DO NOT OVERWIND". The matching Tray is marked: "Made in Germany".
This wonderful rare Set will make a nice addition for your collection.
