Gorgeous PL Limoges France 1914 Hand Painted "Indian Corn" Scenic Humidor by Chicago Decorator, "Frederick R. Cross"
Wonderfully decorated is this vintage, circa 1914, hand painted Scenic Humidor by the early Chicago Decorator, "Frederick R. Cross. Cross ran his own, one man decorating studio, and most likely was able to sell all he painted to the large downtown Chicago Marshall Fields Store. At the time, Marshall Fields, one of the largest upscale department stores in the country, took up 1 whole city block and dedicated one entire floor to find glass and hand painted china. Cross's outstanding hand painted decorating was on par with the elite Chicago Decorating Studios of the day.....including Pickard, Brauer,
Donath, Stouffer's, & Osborne.
This is an excellent example of Cross's outstanding work..........an early PL Limoges France hand painted Scenic Humidor, which measures 6-5/8" tall & 5-1/2" wide. The gorgeous Limoges Scenic Humidor has been superbly decorated with large & lifelike "Indian Corn" displayed on both sides against rich background colors of cream, light cream yellow and shades of light to dark rich red-brown. The lid is a darker red-brown and accented by a thick gilded gold outer rim.
The beautiful Limoges France hand painted "Indian Corn" Humidor is in excellent condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage with the exception a nick on the underside heel [see last photo].
The gorgeous hand painted vintage "Indian Corn" Humidor displays an early "PL Limoges France" mark & has been signed by the early Chicago listed decorator, "F.R. Cross".
