Scarce 1915 Blackhawk Hotel China "Portrait of Blackhawk" 10-1/8" Dinner Plate made by Syracuse China
This is a wonderful Hotel China Plate, made by Syracuse China, especially for the Blackhawk Hotel of Davenport Iowa.
The Blackhawk Hotel opened in 1915, originally as a seven story Hotel, in downtown Davenport. It has had an illustrious history over the last 100+ years. Today, the Hotel Blackhawk is a Four Diamond hotel (AAA), managed by Innkeeper Hospitality Services, LLC of St. Louis, and has been voted the best hotel in Iowa for the last three years by Business Insider. It continues to be a major force behind the resurgence of Downtown Davenport.
Today, the Hotel Blackhawk is an eleven-story brick and terra cotta building located in Downtown Davenport, Iowa. It is a Marriott Autograph Collection property and it is a member of Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The highly collectible Syracuse China Portrait Plate, which measures 10-1/8" wide, displays the Hotel namesake........Chief Black Hawk. Black Hawk, of the Sauk & Fox Indian Tribes, claimed the Illinois/Iowa area as part of their domain and fought to preserve their lands in both the War of 1812 and the Blackhawk War of 1832.
The outstanding Hotel Blackhawk Portrait China Plate is in very good condition and totally free of chips or cracks....but was actually used and has a few very minor surface scratches.
The desirable Hotel Blackhawk Portrait China Plate displays an early mark; "O.P. Co. Syracuse China K-2" mark.
