Beautifully decorated is this vintage, early 1900's, Limoges France hand painted large Scenic Plaque.
The gorgeous Limoges France hand painted Scenic Plaque, which measures 13-1/2" long & 9-1/2" wide, has been wonderfully decorated displaying a "Geisha Girl" in a traditional Kimono........which are large robes, worn with an underrobe. Usually kimono are padded and bound to give a straight line. Kimono are seasonal, and also range in formality and style.
A Geisha Girl are traditional Japanese female entertainers who act as hostesses. Their skills include performing various arts such as classical music, dance, games, and conversation, traditionally to entertain male customers.
On this French Plaque the Geisha Girl is playing a Shamisen, an Okinawan string instrument similar to a small-bodied guitar, which was initiated into the geisha world in the 18th century. It was first brought from China in the 16th century. As the name suggests, it has 3 strings and is plucked or strummed with a relatively big wooden plectrum called a bach.
The attractive hand painted vintage Limoges France "Geisha Girl" Plaque is in excellent condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage. The heavy and fancy scallop gilded gold outer border & rim is excellent with minimal wear.
