Vintage English Clifton China 1912-15 "ONE OF THE B'HOYS" 6-1/2" Kewpie Figurine
Fresh from Australia is this vintage, 1912-15 circa, Figurine made by the Clifton China Co. of Longton, England
The Writer & Artist, Rosie O'Neill [see Photo], created her Kewpie characters in 1909 having in published in the Ladies Home Journal. By 1912 she was authorizing German Companies to make Cupid Dolls and Cupid Novelty items including Children Dishes. The Clifton China W.H. & S Co. [Wildblood, Heath, & Sons] of Longton, England, which operated from 1899--1927 probably secured the rights to make Kewpie Figurines about 1914--15.
This Kewpie Porcelain Figurine, which measures 6-1/2" tall, was mades especially for the Australia Market, specifically for Perth, Australia. The Perth, Australia Kewpie was probably a Novelty made for Australia WWI war effort, as the country entered the War in September, 1914. Note.....the Kewpie Figurine is standing at attention & saluting. On the base that the Kewpie stands on it reads; "One of the B'Hoys".
The interesting Perth, Australia Kewpie is in excellent condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage with the Kewpie leaning slightly to the right.
The Perth, Australia 1914-15 Kewpie displays the Clifton China W.H. & S. Co. Mark......as well as a Registered Mark [see photo].
