Outstanding is this outstanding turn of the 1900's hand painted Scenic Limoges France Rococo style Charger displaying the Nude Goddess of the Hunt.
In Roman mythology, Diana was the Goddess of the Hunt, the moon and nature being associated with wild animals and woodland, and having the power to talk to and control animals. Diana was worshipped in ancient Roman religion and is revered in Roman Neopaganism. Diana was known to be the virgin goddess of childbirth and women. She was one of the three maiden goddesses — along with Minerva and Vesta — who swore never to marry.
Oak Groves were especially sacred to her. According to mythology, Diana was born with her twin brother Apollo on the island of Delos, daughter of Jupiter and Latona. Diana made up a triad with two other Roman deities: Egeria the water nymph, her servant and assistant midwife; and Virbius, the Woodland God.
This beautiful Limoges hand painted Scenic Nude Charger captures the essence of the beautiful Huntress. Measuring an impressive 12-1/4" wide, the Rococo style, heavily gilded gold Charger has been lavishly decorated displaying the Roman Goddess of the Hunt famously referred as "Diana the Huntress". The iconic French Artist, "Dubois" has created this art masterpiece bringing the Goddess of the Hunt to life as she leans on a branch with her right hand & firmly holding her Bow & Arrow in her left hand, in a woodland setting, by a grouping of Purple Water Hyacinth Flowers on a quiet Pond. The artwork, presentation, and rich use of colors are what one would expect from this French Master.
The gorgeous Limoges hand painted Nude "Diana the Huntress" Rococo Charger is in excellent condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage with almost no wear. The heavy Rococo outer rim border gold is absolutely exceptional with only a hint of wear.

famous Bath, Maine Store: "D.T. Percy & Sons". The prominent dry goods and crockery Store was one of the largest of its kind in the State of Maine and run by David Percy and a number of his six Sons. Though I can find no exact date for the opening of the Store, it appears that it opened sometime around 1840-1850 timeline and was still in business at the turn of the 19th Century.
The exquisite Limoges Nude Charger has been factory drilled and is ready for hanging. She is impressive looking in any display setting.
