Gorgeous Pickard Studio of Chicago 1912 "Old Fashion Flowers" 9-1/8" Floral Vase by Listed Artist, "Emil Tolpin"
The prolific Pickard Artist, Emil Tolpin, who was born in 1889 in Riga, Russia [Latavia] studied art both in Europe and at the Imperial Art School in Odessa. In 1909/1910, as a 20 year old, he emigrated to the U.S. and immediately started working for Pickard Studio in Chicago. Tolpin was highly skilled and very versatile. He did FRUIT LINEAR, ANTIQUE ENAMELS, and ANTIQUE CHINESE ENAMELS. His own designs included ENAMEL CHRYSANTHEMUMS, VENETIAN RENAISSANCE, and OLD FASHION FLOWERS. By 1920 Tolpin had moved on from Pickard opening his own Chicago Studio putting out many of the above designs.
This is an outstanding example of Tolpin's "Old Fashion Flowers" design displaying a wonderful collage of Mixed Flowers. outlined in heavy gilded gold, against a beautiful Cobalt Blue background and light cream. The beautiful Vase has been nicely accented at the top of the Vase, as well as at the bottom of the Vase, with a combination of extensive fire gold and cobalt blue
The Pickard "Old Fashion Flowers" hand painted Vase is in excellent condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage with the heavy fire gold being excellent with only a hint of wear.
The attractive 1912 "Old Fashion Flowers" Vase displays Pickard Mark # 7, which was used between 1912 to 1918. Emil "Tolpin" has signed the outstanding hand painted Vase.
