Beautiful Bavaria 1900's Hand Painted "Dogwood" Set of 3 Plates by the Listed Pickard Artist "John Thonander"
Wonderfully decorated is this beautiful matched Set of 3 unmarked Bavaria Floral Plates by the Pickard Artist, John Thonander.
John Thonander, who usually signed his work as "Thon" worked for the prestigious Pickard Studio of Chicago from about 1910--1912. He was noted for his beautiful Floral presentations. It is believed that while working for Pickard, he also ran his own Studio, "American Thonander China", selling his fine works to help supplement his income.
This beautiful matched Set of 3 hand painted Floral Plates, which measure: Master: 10-1/4" & Small Plates: 6", have been wonderfully decorated
with lifelike "Dogwood" on stem & leaf against a background of shadow leafing & background colors of cream, light cream yellow, light cream green, & very light cream lavender. Heavy gilded fire gold accents the two cut out handles as well as the outer rim.
The attractive hand painted Set of "Dogwood" matched Plates are in excellent condition & totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage and the heavy fire gold is excellent throughout with only small hints of wear.
The gorgeous matched Set of 3 "Dogwood" Plates has been signed "J. Thonander" on the Master Plate and "Then" on the small matching Plates.
The backside displays John Thonander's Studio mark: "American Thonander Hand Painted China".
