Artist, Elsie W. Bieg

Ms. Elsie W. Bieg like many of the great Porcelain Decorators of the early 1900’s started her career at one of Chicago’s major Decorating Studios; Frances Studio. By 1915 Ms. Bieg opened up her own Chicago China Decorating Studio on the northside of Chicago, called Humboldt Art Studio. The Studio operated from 1915-1928 with the large majority of her creations being Floral & Fruit renderings. Many of her creations were almost exact emulations of popular Pickard creations. To capitalize on her Studio success, Ms. Bieg opened up a retail outlet in downtown Chicago on West Madison Street called the “Madison Art & Gift Shop”, which was quite successful. More information on this wonderful early Chicago listed Artist can be found in Alan Reed’s Pickard Collectors Book including ½ Page dedicated to her Humboldt Art Porcelain Decorating Studio, Pages 263-264.

This is a fine example of Ms. Bieg's wonderful artwork; a beautiful & large Bavaria hand painted Floral Tray. The gorgeous hand painted Tray, which measures 17" long, 10-1/2" wide & 1" tall at the Handles, has been lavishly decorated with large "Red & Pink Roses" on stem & leaf against a background of shadow leafing and background colors of cream, very light cream yellow, very light cream green, very light blue-green, light lavender, red, & light cream brown. A heavy 1/2" bright gilded gold graces the outer rim & the large & prominent cut-out handles. Additionally, gold outlining can be found in the Trays design.

The beautiful Bavaria hand painted "Red & Pink Roses" Tray is in excellent condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage with the heavy fire gold between excellent & pristine with only a hint of wear.

The gorgeous "Red & Pink Roses" 17" hand painted Floral Tray displays an early "Bavaria" mark & has been signed by listed Chicago Artist, "E.W. Big".

The attractive Roses Tray is perfect for a Vanity, Bath, Dresser, table or counter.

Please feel free to ask questions.

NOTE; All photos were shot, outside, in natural lighting in several locations & against a white background & a dark/black background giving the pictures either a lighter OR darker appearance.
