Stunning D & Co. France & Julius Brauer Studio of Chicago 1900's Hand Painted "Strawberry Clusters" 8-1/2" Fruit Plate by Listed Artist, "A. Burton"
The Artist, A. Burton was one of Pickard Studio of Chicago earliest Artist, having worked for the world renown Studio from 1898-1903. Later he moved on to another large Chicago Studio; the Julius H. Brauer Studio. Like most professional decorators during the early 1900’s, Burton worked on the side to bring in extra income. He was an expert in the Floral, especially Strawberry Clusters, Poinsettas, and Roses. Alan Reed's in his Pickard Collectors Book has a bio on this great artist as well as several photographic examples.
This splendid hand painted piece, was originally decorated on a D & Co. France blank at the Julius Brauer Studio in Chicago between 1905--1910, and displays a wonderful example one of Burton's original creations; the "Strawberry Clusters". The beautiful hand painted Plate, which measures 8-1/2" wide, displays clusters of strawberries, on stem & leaf, around the outer rim.......tied together by a chain of stems & leaves outlined in beautiful gold tracing. The fancy scallop outer rim displays nearly 1/2 of heavy and brilliant gilded fire gold........adding to its tremendous beauty.
The gorgeous Brauer hand painted "Strawberry Clusters" Fruit Plate is in excellent condition and totally free of chips cracks, or other damage with the brilliant fire gold nearly mint.
The beautiful "Strawberry Clusters" Fruit Plate displays a double mark on the underside.......both an early "D & Co. France" and "Julius Brauer Hand Painted" Studio mark [green mark], circa 1`905--1910.
