Incredible Large Museum Quality Limoges France 1900 Hand Painted "The Storm" Scenic 15"+ Vase With Heavy Raised Scrolled Gold by the Artist, "De Rilhac"
I am very privilege to offer this extraordinary and one of the truly most incredible hand painted art pieces I have had the pleasure of owning. My photos hardly do the justice on this outstanding vintage French piece, circa 1900.
The beautiful Limoges hand painted Vase, which measures a tad over 15" tall, displays two young lovers running down a path caught in a Rainstorm and has been entitled for some 130+ years as, "The Storm". The unique and intriguing scenes was originally painted by the French artist Pierre Auguste Cot, which now hangs in the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art.
I have attempted to enclose photos of all sides of this art marvel, including close ups. Please do look at all photos to enjoy the wonderful artwork presented. The artist has used vibrant colors, shading and undertones to enhance the depth of the dramatic scene. The two young lovers run side by side through the forest trying to avoid the coming storm. The fiery red sky and lightning are fast approaching,as seen in the background. As they run down the path, they clutch a billowy gray-blue scarf above their heads to keep them safe & dry. The sides & back of the iconic Vase continues the story, as the Artist has painted a misty lake scene with tall grass, & large soaring trees against a menacing sky.
Both the top & bottom of the vase has some of the most elaborate and ornate gold accenting work that one will ever see. I am guessing that this is probably real 22 or 24K gold, which also goes deep into the Vases' throat. The gold work is replete with heavy raised detailing such as scrolling feathers, intricate florals and twigs. On either side of the vase is the familiar twisted bamboo shaped gold handles that compliment the gently rolling shape of the mouth opening.
From top to bottom and on each side, the Artist, "De Rilhac" has done a marvelous and meticulous presentation that has lasted all these years. The Vase, itself flares down to a 6" wide base, while at the top are two fancy twisted loop handles. For presentation, use of colors, and extraordinary artwork, this is a true example of a Master Decorator.
The beautiful Limoges hand painted Scenic "The Storm" Vase is in excellent condition and totally free of chips, cracks, paint loss or other damage. The vibrant and incredible colors are both intense & crisp. I see absolutely no scratches or scuffs to the painted décor. The heavy & extensive fire gold, which is exceptional from top to bottom has barely a hint of very minor & insignificant wear.
The outstanding hand painted Scenic Vase of "The Storm" displays double Limoges marks; George Borgfeldt [Coronet] France Limoges & William Guerin Limoges France mark. The French Artist, "De Rilhac" has signed the front of the Vase just left of the two young lovers' feet.
The exquisite Museum Quality Limoges France 1900 Hand Painted "The Storm" Scenic 15"+ Vase will truly be the show piece of any room.
