Beautiful Bavaria 1900's Hand Painted "Wild Pink Roses" 3" Salt & Pepper Floral Shakers by the Pickard Artist, "Thomas Jelinek"
This is a wonderful example of a nicely decorated matched pair of vintage unmarked Bavaria Floral Salt & Pepper Shakers decorated by the well known Pickard Artist, "Thomas Jelinek".
The Pickard Artist, Thomas Jelinek, was only 21 years old when he started to professionally China decorate at the renowned Pickard Studios of Chicago. The year was 1898 and Chicago had become the center of the China Decorating Universe. Jelinek worked for the Pickard Studio from 1898-1905 and was known for his naturalistic style. His numerous flower presentations had both realism and great colors. In 1905 Jelinek started decorating for the Stouffer Studio of Chicago, one of Pickard's main competitors. He decorated for Stouffer until 1922 and simultaneously ran his own small decorating studio in 1914-15. Alan Reed's Pickard Collectors Book has a bio on Thomas Jelinek, as well as 1/2 dozen examples of his wonderful works.
The beautiful hand painted Bavaria Floral Shakers, which measure about 3" tall, has been exceptionally decorated with large & lifelike "Wild Pink Roses" on stem & leaf against a background of shadow leafing and a off-white background color. Heavy fire gilded gold covers the tops of this beautiful Pair.
The Bavaria "Wild Pink Roses" Shakers are in excellent condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage with the gold nearly pristine.
The gorgeous Pair of "Wild Pink Roses" Shakers have been signed "JEL", by the Pickard Artist, "Thomas Jelinek".
