Master decorator Edward Challinor had a long and illustrious career with some of the greatest Decorating Studios of the early 20th Century. Immigrating from England to the States in his early 20’s, after studying at a Staffordshire School of Art, Challinor started his notable career at the Willets Studio in New Jersey, but was lured to Chicago by Wilder Pickard in 1898, working on and off for the Studio for some 40 years. In between his stints at the Pickard Studio, Challinor briefly worked for the Julius Brauer Studio of Chicago, as well as doing extensive moon-lighting on the side throughout his career. Challinor was one of Pickard’s most diversified, as well as skilled and prolific Artist, and was a master at numerous Floral, bird, and scenic presentation creating a number of patterns and creations throughout his long career including the “Challinor Geranium”. It is said that many of his decorating secrets, including the wonderful use of colors, died with him, as they were not passed onto other Pickard Artist.

The Pickard Collectors Book, by Alan Reed, has over 2 dozen examples of this great Artist, as well as extensive bio information.

This is an outstanding example of "Edward Challinor's" work, a beautiful hand painted Floral creation, circa 1912.
