Maxwell Rean Klipphahn, was one of the early Pickard Studio decorators having started with the Chicago company in 1898. Wilder Pickard recruited Klipphahn from a pottery company in Trenton, NJ. Klipphahn was to lead a long illustrious becoming one of Pickard’s most accomplished Artist. Klipphahn was an expert in fruits and flowers in the naturalistic, stylized, and conventionalized formats. He also created numerous floral designs throughout his career.
On the side, Klipphahn ran his own Decorating Studio from 1915-17, but always seem to return to Pickard when they beckon. Somewhere between 1911-1919, Klipphahn worked for the Wight Art Studio along with former Pickard Artist, Phillip Wight and Howard Reury. During his time at the Wight Art Studio, Klipphahn used his initials on his artwork and creations; “M.K.” His Pickard decorating career ran from about 1898 to 1930, non-continuously, and usually used his middle name, Rean, for his signature versus his initials.
