The prominent China Decorator, Robert Hessler, was one of Pickard Studio of Chicago earliest decorators. Having been professionally trained at the Philadelphia Industrial Art School, Hessler was responsible for creating numerous popular designs for the Studio dealing with Carnations, Grapes, Aura Argenta Linear, Hyacinthus, Modern Conventional and many more.
His long career with Pickard stretched fromm 1898—1930. Later he worked for the prestigious Frank Yeschek Studio of Chicago.
Fresh from the Chicago Area, where Hessler decorated, comes this beautiful hand painted Art Deco design After Dinner 6 Pc Tea Set. The wonderful Set includes a Tea Pot/Lid: [9-1/8" tall & 8" wide], Creamer: [3-1/2"], Sugar/Lid [3-1/2"] & scarce matching Tray: [11-5/8"]. The gorgeous and heavy gilded Tea Set has been decorated in the wonderful Art Deco pattern known as "Modern Conventional". Each and every piece of this outstanding Set has been exceptionally decorated with the Tea Pieces showing extensive decorating on both sides. Please take the time to review my photos of this outstanding and scarce Set.
The beautiful PIckard "Modern Conventional" is in overall excellent condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage with a minor unseen manufacturer flaw on the insert portion of the Tea Lid. Normally lids are made with a single insert tab to hold the lid in place. This lid was made with two insert tabs, one of which was removed at the factory leaving an unglazed indentation [photo available upon request]. The gold is exceptional on all pieces and is 99% intact with a very tiny amount of wear, mainly on the tray and very insignificant minor scratches.
The gorgeous hand painted "Modern Conventional" After Dinner Tea Set displays three different marks including Pickard Mark # 4 on all the pieces and used from 1903-05, T & V Limoges France mark on the Tea Pot & Tray, and an Omhe Silesia mark on the Sugar & Creamer.
The exquisite Set shows exceptionally and displays exceptionally well.
