Outstanding German Sitzendorf 1880-90's "Polar Bear" 10-1/2" Figurine
In 1760, the first porcelain factory was established in Sitzendorf, Germany with permission of the regional Prince.. It was moved to Volkstedt in 1762. The actual manufacturer of figurines began in the town of Sitzendorf in 1884 though the factory began working with porcelain in 1850. By 1809, the company had a second factory and had introduced steam power that helped them employ a total of 300 employees in two factories in a town with a population of 700. The factory remains in operation into the present day.
The most prized Sitzendorf Figurines are those made in the 1884—1932 period.
This is an superb example of the German Sitzendorf Figureines; an outstanding lifelike "Polar Bear" on a pedestal base which measures 10-1/2" long, 8-3/4" tall, & 5-1/8" wide. Please take the time to review my photos of this outstanding Figurine.
The Sitzendorf "Polar Bear" Figurine is in very good condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage with some minor age crazing on the underside base [see photos].
