Davis Collamore, was born in Scituate, Massachusetts to a family that had been settled there since 1639, was the youngest of twelve children. At the age of sixteen he moved to New York City to be employed by his brother Ebenezer, an importer of glass and china, at 171 Broadway, with a residence near St. John's Park. In 1842 he established his own business, at 595 Broadway.

Davis' brother Gilman Collamore (1834—1888) came to join him in 1854. Gilman established his own business in 1861. Gilman Collamore & Co., in premises at 731 Broadway in 1861, then occupied premises in Union Square before taking two storeys of showrooms in The Wilbraham, a fashionable block of bachelor flats at Fifth Avenue and 30th Street, that opened in 1890. Emulating his brother, Gilman commissioned designs and had all the great porcelain companies of England & France put on his own mark at the factory including Royal Doulton, Copeland Spode, Thomas Minton & Sons, Haviland, and Villeroy & Boch among others.

The brothers Davis & Gilman Collamore became two of New York City's largest and most prominent European China importers and retailers throughout the late 1800's into the golden years of hand painted china. The brother's firms, rivaled competitors Tiffany & Co. and Black Starr & Frost.

This is a fine early 1900's example of a hand painted Royal Doulton, Fish Plate commissioned by Gilman Collamore & Co.

The beautiful hand painted Plate, which measures 9" wide, has been superbly decorated with lifelike "Trout Fish" against a very light cream yellow decor and heavy extensive raised & gilded gold outer border.

The outstanding Royal Doulton hand painted "Trout" Fish Plate is in very good condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage with the heavy and extensive gold being between excellent and pristine.

The attractive "Trout" Fish Plate displays the Royal Doulton mark used between 1902-22. and has been additionally signed "Gilman Collamore & Co., 5th Ave. and 30th Street. New York.
