Gorgeous Limoges France 1890's Hand Painted "Wild Flowers & Violets" 2-Pc Covered Service Pedestal Dish Imported by the Ovington Brothers of New York
The Ovington Brothers were major porcelain importers and resellers, originally operating out of Brooklyn, NY in the late 1800’s for as long as 20+ years. As importers, they often would have their name installed at the Limoges factories in France.
At the height of their success, the Ovington Brothers operated Fine China stores at their original Brooklyn Store at 38 & 40 Flatbush Ave. and their New York Store at 330 Fifth Ave. They also had an outlet in Chicago.
This is a fine example of an early unmarked Limoges France 1890's hand painted 2 Pc Covered Pedestal Dish especially imported for the America Pre-1900 market.
The beautiful Limoges Covered Dish, which measures 10-1/4" long & about 7" tall, has been splendidly decorated with hand painted "Wild Flowers" on one of the beautiful piece and hand painted "Violets" on the opposite side of the Dish. A gorgeous deep red background, extensively decorated in a gold leafing of "Wild Flowers" and chains of gold flowers covers, much of the beautiful Covered Dish.
The Limoges hand painted Floral Covered Dish is in excellent condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage with only the lightest of gold wear.
The outstanding 2-Pc Limoges Covered Dish displays the mark; "Brooklyn, Ovington, Chicago" .........a mark script often used by the Ovington Brothers for much of their fine imported porcelain and hand painted china.
The attractive 2-Pc Limoges Covered Dish shows and displays exceptionally well and is perfect as a display piece, special occasion serving piece, or a coffee table covered candy dish.
