Monsterously Large T & V Limoges France 1914 Hand Painted "Pink & Yellow Roses" 17-1/8" Floral Tray by the Pickard Artist, "Max Klipphahn"

Maxwell Rean Klipphahn, was one of the early Pickard Studio decorators, having started with the Chicago company in 1898. Wilder Pickard recruited Klipphahn from a pottery company in Trenton, NJ. Klipphahn was to lead a long illustrious becoming one of Pickard’s most accomplished Artist. Klipphahn was an expert in fruits and flowers in the naturalistic, stylized, and conventionalized formats. He created numerous floral designs
throughout his career.

On the side, Klipphahn ran his own Decorating Studio from 1915-17, but always seem to return to Pickard when they beckon. Somewhere between 1911-1919, Klipphahn worked for the Wight Art Studio along with former Pickard Artist, Phillip Wight and Howard Reury. During his time at the Wight Art Studio, Klipphahn used his initials on his artwork and creations; “M.K.” His Pickard decorating career ran from about 1898 to 1930, non-continuously, and he usually used his middle name, Rean, for his signature versus his initials.

Alan Reed, in his Pickard Collecting Book, has both a bio and over a dozen photo examples of his outstanding work.

This is a beautiful vintage hand painted Tray, which measures an astounding 17-1/8" long & 6-1/8" wide from outer handle to outer handle, and was decorated by Max Klipphahn during his stint at the Wight Art Studio, circa 1914.

The attractive hand painted Tray has been wonderfully decorated with "Pink & Yellow Roses" on stem and leaf against a background of shadow leafing and wonderful soft background colors of cream yellow and powder blue. Heavy fire gold gilding graces the outer rim, handles, and inner decor.

The "Pink & Yellow Roses" Tray is in very good condition and the heavy and extensive gilded gold is near pristine.

The beautiful hand painted Roses Tray displays an early "T & V Limoges France" mark and has been signed by the Pickard Artist, Max Klipphahn "M.K."

The impressive looking Tray is perfect for a vanity, dresser, cocktail table, counter or wall.
