Gorgeous Bavaria 1900's Hand Painted "Forget Me Not" Shakers by the Listed Chicago Artist, "Joseph Kittler"
The Artist Joseph Kittler was well known among the great Chicago Decorators of the early 1900's. He emigrated from Austria, as a 24 year old, in 1904. By 1908 he was decorating for the prestigious J.H. Stouffer Studio of Chicago. Later he would decorate for the White's Art Co, as well as the Edward Donath Studios of Chicago. He was an accomplished decorator and was very versatile in creating floral, fruit, and portrait subjects. By 1922, Kittler had established his own Chicago Decorating Studio, which endured until 1943. Kittler would often sign his art creations with the abbreviation of his name, "Kitt". Alan Reed, in his Pickard Collectors Book, has a bio and section on this great Artist.
This is a fine example of Kittler's beautiful work; a beautiful vintage unmarked Bavaria 1900's Pair of hand painted Floral Shakers.
The attractive four sided Floral Shakers, which measure about 3"+, has been expertly decorated on both front and back, with an overlap of decor on each side, with beautiful and lifelike "Forget Me Not" on stem and leaf against a background of shadow leafing and background colors of light cream yellow, yellow, cream brown, and a light powder blue. The top of the Shakers have been gilded in heavy gold.
The beautiful "Forget Me Not" Floral Shakers are in very good condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage with the gold being excellent. [New underside corks will be needed].
Each of the Shakers has been signed by Joseph Kittler aka "Kitt".
