Exceptional Bavaria & Julius Brauer Studio Early 1900's Hand Painted "Corn Plant" 8-5/8" Plate by the Listed Artist, "Cowan"

The Julius H. Brauer China Decorating Studio opened its doors in Chicago in 1903. Brauer started his career as one of the Pickard Studios earliest artist and worked for that Studio from 1898-1903. Within a few years the Julius Brauer Studios became one of Pickard's biggest competitors, not only in Chicago, but throughout the country. Over the course of time that the Studio operated [1903-1926], some 23 different artist worked for him including eleven [11] former Pickard Artist. The Studio was tremendously popular putting out many variety of floral items, as well as Portrait, Scenic, and Animal decorated pieces. Alan Reed in his Pickard Collectors Book has an extensive section with 10 pages of history and photos of this outstanding Studio and fine examples of this great Artist works.

This is a beautiful example of Brauer's work decorated on an unmarked Bavaria 1900's blank.

The attractive Plate, which measures about 8-5/8" wide, has been expertly decorated with a display of Fall Corn, still on the still on the stalk....against background colors of cream yellow, cream burnt orange, hints of cream green & cream lavender and a heavy deep orange brown. A heavy gilded gold outer rim, outlined in black, adds richness to this beautiful creation.

The gorgeous "Corn" Plate is in very good condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage........with the gold being excellent.

The hand painted "Corn" Plate displays an early Julius Brauer Studio mark and has been signed by the Artist, "Cowan".
