Beautiful Bavaria 1900's Hand Painted Vibrant "Deep Red Roses" 8-1/2" Plate by the Pickard Artist, "Carl Koenig"
Carl Koenig was 24 when he started decorating in 1905 for the most prestigious China Studio in America, Pickard Studio of Chicago. Koenig was well known for his fruits and floral rendering. After leaving Pickard in 1912, Koenig did stints at two of Chicago other elite studios; Julius Brauer Studio and the Edward Donath Studios. Koenig opened his own China Decorating Studio on the near north side of Chicago in 1915....and operated for 50+ years to at least 1966 and possibly until 1969. Though suffering through the two World Wars, the Great Depression, and two additional wars before his death, he was remarkable in continuing to find outlets for his outstanding works. No known listed China Decorator had more longevity than Carl Koenig. The Pickard Collectors Book by Alan Reed has extensive information on Koenig, as well as examples of his fine works.
This is a fine example of Carl Koenig decorating; an unmarked Bavaria 1900's Hand Painted Floral Plate. The beautiful Plate, which measures 8-1/2" wide, displays large and vibrant "Red Roses" on stem and leaf against a background of shadow leafing and background colors of creme, creme yellow, creme blue, and a creme green. A heavy gold gilding has been added to the outer rim. The outstanding artwork, wonderful use of colors, and exceptional presentation are all the earmarks of a master decorator.
The hand painted Roses Plate is in excellent condition and totally damage free of nicks, chips, cracks, or other damage.
The Plate has been signed by the Listed Artist, "C. Koenig".
The beautiful Plate shows and displays exceptionally well.
