Scarce Rick Wisecarver 1993 High Relief "Mohawk Warrior" 4-1/2" Minature Whiskey Jug Signed "Rick W."
Rick Wisecarver was born in 1950 and died in 2002. He got his start with pottery when his mom, Yvonne Hoadley*, who owned a ceramic shop in Roseville, Ohio and suggested to Rick that he paint pottery for her. It was a family affair for Wisecarver, who started working in the field at the relatively young age of 20 (1970). He worked with his family and did not actually do all the painting on his jars. Aunt Flo, as well as Mom, helped with the painting.
Eventually Rick started his own pottery line, becoming world famous with his many one of a kind originals. His pottery has become extremely collectible and vary widely from Plates to Prints.
This beautiful piece was originally found in rural Minnesota some 15 years ago. I have only seen a handful of these beautiful miniature high relief Whiskey Jugs. The Whiskey Jug displays a "Mohawk Warrior" done in high relief. The detail and artwork is incredible on the Jug.
The Wisecarver Whiskey Jug is in good condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage with the exception of a underside insignificant tiny flake, most likely at the time of creation.
The unusual Whiskey Jug has been incised; "Rick W. No - 5t - 93 RS"
