Gorgeous 1900's Thomas Bavaria Hand Painted Vibrant "Purple & Red Tulips" 10" Plate by the Pickard Listed Artist, "Harry Michel"
Harry Michel was one of Pickard Studios' earliest professional artist, working for the world renown Studio starting in 1898 through 1905. Michel was an accomplished Artist at an early age. At the Pickard Studio he was noted for his Tulips, Violets, and Nasturtiums and his many stylied designs. In 1905 Michel moved to the rival Stouffer Studios and remained with the Studio into the late 1920's. Like many of his contemporaries , Michel decorated and sold his creations on the side to supplement his earnings. Alan Reed in his Pickard Collectors Book has a bio on this famous and outstanding Artist, as well as many photo examples of his creations.
This beautiful Plate is an excellent example of Michel's work; a beautiful Floral hand painted Plate measuring 10" wide and displaying vibrant and colorful "Purple & Red Tulips" on stem and leaf against a background of shadow leafing and background colors of very light crème yellow, light crème blue steel, crème brown, and crème lavender. The outer rim of the gorgeous Plate has been heavily gilded gold and adds to the beauty of the Plate. The outstanding artwork, wonderful use of colors, and superb presentation are all the earmarks of a master decorator.
The attractive "Tulips" Plate is in excellent condition and free of chips, cracks, hairlines, or other damage.
The Floral Plate displays an early "Thomas Sevres Bavaria" mark and has been Artist signed, "Michel".
