Irene Poole was one of the early professional Chicago Decorators that opened her China Decorating business before 1900, actually in 1894. She operated until 1913 competing with the very best China Decorating Studios in the country...all from Chicago....and including Pickard, Brauer, Donath, Osborne, and Stouffer, In 1915 the Poole family opened under a new name, Poole Studio and operated until 1917 producing wonderful hand painted china for the demanding Chicago market.
This is a fine example from the Poole Studio, a beautiful hand painted Floral Plate measuring 7-3/4" wide and displaying vibrant and lifelike "Purple & Yellow Gold Pansies" on stem and leaf against a background of shadow leafing and background colors of crème, very light crème green, hints of very light crème blue, and a crème lavender, The outside rim has been gilded gold adding to the beauty of the Plate.
The beautiful Plate is in very good condition and totally free of chips, cracks, or other damage.
The hand painted "Pansy" Plate displays an early "Bavaria" mark and has been signed; "M.W. Poole".
