Osborne Studio started in 1914 in Chicago by founder, Asbjorn Osborne, and soon became one of the top China decorating studios in Chicago, as well as in America. They competed with the best decorating studios of the day including Pickard, Brauer, Donath, and Stouffer, as well as hundreds of other smaller professional studios. Asbjorn Osborne, as well as some former Pickard Studio Artist did much of the Studio decorating. A complete section on the Osborne Art Studio can be found in Reed's Pickard Collectors Book and covers Pages 269--275. Many fine photo examples of Osborne Studio works can be found in the book including several similar pieces by Osborne and the Pickard Studio.
This is a fine example of Osborne creations...a beautiful 7-3/4" hand painted Floral Plate. The beautiful Plate has been decorated with vibrant and deep colored "Forget Me Not" on stem and leaf against a background of shadow leafing and background colors or light crème yellow, light crème lavender, light crème burnt orange, and a light robin blue. A heavy gilded gold outer border outlined in black adds greatly to the beauty of the Plate. As you can see, Osborne style of decorating sets him apart from other decorators, who often painted Forget Me Not. Osborne use of deep and rich color with his extraordinary presentation and his expert artistry is a true example of a master at work.
The Plate is in very good condition and totally free of chips, cracks, hairlines, or other damage.
The Plate displays an early "J & C Bavaria" mark and has been prominently signed "Osborne".
Please feel free to ask questions.
NOTE: The 2nd Matching Plate has been decorated on a Nippon Blank
