Fabulous & Scarce Vintage Germany 1903 Hand Painted Scenic "Lion & Lioness" 10-1/4" Plate by the Pickard Artist, "C. Pohl"
The Artist, C. Pohl, worked for the Pickard Studio of Chicago from 1903--1905. Very few of his pieces have serviced, though a few of his Art Nouveau, Scenic, and Animal pieces have. His artwork is exceptional and his Lion & Animal pieces are extremely desirable by advance collectors. A bio on Pohl, as well as examples of his work, can be found in Alan Reed's Pickard Collectors Book.
Mr. Pohl did a series of these incredible Scenic Animal Plates. His outstanding skill as an early 1900's master artist and decorator are shown in this beautiful piece of artwork.
The fabulous presentation displays a colorful and vibrant Pair of Lion & Lioness"...all set on a rocky bluff against a colorful mountain and Valley background.. Look closely at the photos, as the use of colors, masterly of the presentation, and the realistic and life-like scene are incredible. The Scene has been totally hand painted against a heavy gild and beaded raised gold outer border. The combination of the heavy gold with the outstanding scenic colors is rich with great eye appeal.
The Plate is in excellent condition and totally damage free of nicks, chips, cracks, or other damage with an inconspicuous tiny scratch....with the gold approaching pristine.
Fabulously decorated with outstanding colors is this wonderful vintage 1900's hand painted scenic Plate with three different marks..... including a Royal Vienna "Beehive", "Germany", and "Die Wustenrauber". The Pickard Artist, C. Pohl has signed the Plate.
