The early Chicago Artist, Leon, worked for the most prestigious and famous China Decorating Studio of the day...the Pickard Studio of Chicago. Leon worked from 1898-1905, decorating for Pickard, while also running his own part time business selling to the general public, as well as selling to retailers, such as the world famous Marshall Fields, located in downtown Chicago. Leon was noted for his naturalistic format and included gooseberries, apple blossoms, and red currant. Later in his career Leon decorated for the prestigious Kalamazoo China Studio, D'Arcy.
This beautiful vintage 1900's piece was decorated at Leon, in Chicago, on a Syracuse China blank. The beautiful piece, a 6-3/4" X 2-3/4" Pedestal Bowl, has been decorated with the very popular "Red Currant" theme both inside and outside the Bowl. Heavy gilded gold covers the top rim, base, and goes heavily into the interior. The breath taking high quality artwork makes the bowl a standout.
The Pedestal Bowl is in excellent condition and totally damage free of nicks, chips, cracks, or other damage with very light gold wear.
The Bowl displays an early "Syracuse China" mark and is boldly signed by "Leon".
The Bowl is just perfect for a counter, table, dresser, or vanity.
