A wonderful original vintage 1930s Art Deco Bauhaus Jacob Bengel Yellow Glass Bead and Chrome Chain Choker Necklace.
This wonderful Art Deco Necklace was designed by the celebrated German designer Jacob Bengel in the 1930s.
It was during the Bauhaus and Art Deco period that Jakob Bengel was looking to obtain new materials and inspiration to produce costume jewellery. Inspired by French Avant-Garde and other fashion trendsetters such as Coco Chanel, Jakob Bengel started to produce experimental jewellery. The pieces, catalogued 1924-1939, combined brass and chrome with geometric shapes of coloured Galalith and colourful pressed Glass Beads and Cabochons.
The majority of Jakob Bengel Jewellery is unsigned/unmarked (the Bengel mark is a pyramid stack of cannon balls and a cannon) especially those that were exported. In some cases because of Germany’s lack of popularity in the 1930’s, items exported to France were marked ‘Made in France’.
The Bengel factory was closed down at the beginning of WW2 as Galalith was considered an essential product for munitions production. It was later reopened after the war to become a museum which embodies the 130 year industrial history of the city of Idar-Oberstein. Jacob Bengel jewellery is now becoming increasingly rare and highly collectible to Art Deco jewellery enthusiasts the world over.
This classic Jacob Bengel Necklace combines two of his signature materials... Chrome and coloured Glass. The Necklace features Yellow coloured Glass Beads With Filigree Chrome Connectors and Bead Caps suspended from a Chrome Chain.
The Necklace has a choker length of 14.5" and weighs 13.2g. It has a Spring Ring Clasp and is in excellent vintage condition as shown and is still very wearable.
We strive to describe and photograph all of our items clearly and truthfully. Unless otherwise stated, our vintage and antique jewellery is not cleaned. This is due to many requests for vintage jewellery to be left in it's original condition. If you have any questions about this item then please don't hesitate to contact me prior to purchase... Thank you.
