Pre-Loved Antique, Vintage and Handmade Jewellery: Necklaces, Bracelets, Rings, Brooches, Earrings and Jewellery Sets
A pretty antique Victorian Sterling Silver Sweetheart Brooch hallmarked Birmingham 1896.
Victorian jewelry is as complex in its symbolism, sentiment and design as was the fashion, architecture and decor of the time. Worn as an ornament, a love token or a remembrance, jewelry not only completed the well-dressed lady’s costume but also denoted her position in society, her marital status and her sense of self.
One of the most prominent brooch styles of the Victorian era is the Sweetheart Brooch. Given to ladies by husbands leaving for or arriving home from military service, these Brooches represent a very romantic moment in jewellery history. Wearing a Sweetheart Brooch allowed Victorian women to show their pride in their husbands, as well as keep them close at heart while they were away.
This charming little Victorian Silver Sweetheart Brooch features a 3D design of Flowers, Leaves and twin Horseshoes. It has a secure pin and a 'C' style clasp and comes with the box shown.
It measures 4.5cm x 1.3cm and weighs 3.9g. It is fully Hallmarked on the reverse for Birmingham 1896 and is in excellent antique condition as shown and is very wearable.
We strive to describe and photograph all of our items clearly and truthfully. Unless otherwise stated, our vintage and antique jewellery is not cleaned. This is due to many requests for vintage jewellery to be left in it's original condition. If you have any questions about this item then please don't hesitate to contact me prior to purchase... Thank you.
