A gorgeous vintage 1930s Czech Neiger Brothers Egyptian Revival Scarab Beetle and Pharaoh Bohemian Glass Cabochon Panel Bracelet with Box.
The Czech Republic (renamed in 1990 - formally Czechoslovakia) is world renowned for its beautiful Bohemian glasswork costume jewellery which is still produced to this current day. Although still beautiful and highly collectable, it cannot match the opulent splendour of the famous Art Deco period of 1915 - 1935 which true collectors covet as the 'Holy Grail' of Art Deco costume jewellery. Two of the biggest producers during this period were the Brdyčka & Altman jewellery company and the famous Neiger Brothers, Max and Norbert Neiger.
Art Deco and Art Nouveau motifs are characteristic during this period: floral motifs, pharaohs, buddhas, dragonflies, butterflies, sphinxes, scarabs, beetles, cicadas, etc. All incorporating brightly coloured Bohemian glass beads, cabochons and various forms of 'art glass' including peking glass, satin glass, foiled glass, crackled glass and mottled glass amongst others.
The Neiger Brothers took advantage of the Egyptian Revival craze, beginning with the discovery of King Tut’s tomb in 1922. They further added more “exotic” lines, with Egyptian, Chinese and Indian motifs. They produced hypnotizing brooches, beautiful beaded necklaces and fascinating bracelets, all of the highest quality Bohemian glass beads, pressed glass cabochons and finely detailed filigree brass findings. As the Germans advanced near Gablonz in 1939, the two Jewish brothers and their families left their factory and escaped to Bohemia. They were later arrested in Prague and were transported to the Lodz Ghetto. Both sadly perished in 1942, Max Neiger in the Lodz Ghetto and Norbert Neiger in the Chelmno Death Camp.
This wonderful vintage 1930s Art Deco Neiger Brothers Bracelet features a panel link chain featuring alternating pressed Bohemian Glass Cabochons with Egyptian themed Scarab Beetles and Egyptian Pharaohs in pronged settings. The Bracelet has a Spring Ring Clasp and comes complete with the vintage box shown although the box is not original to the bracelet.
The Bracelet has a length of 7.2", a width of 1.1cm and weighs 15.6g. It is in excellent vintage condition as shown and is very wearable.
The box measures 8.5" x 1.7" x 1" and is in fair vintage condition as shown with a good working snap hinge.
We strive to describe and photograph all of our items clearly and truthfully. Unless otherwise stated, our vintage and antique jewellery is not cleaned. This is due to many requests for vintage jewellery to be left in it's original condition. If you have any questions about this item then please don't hesitate to contact me prior to purchase... Thank you.
