Fantastic original triple laminated Ivory and black art deco bangle bracelet.
This is a fine example of the late 30s Catalan Bakelite jewelry that was being produced in New York City.

Bakelite is the first commercially successful artificial plastic in the world. Created in 1914 by Henry Baekeland, in New York City, the Plastic, Bakelite, quickly became successful in manufacturing and industrial uses because of its ability to not transfer heat.

The Catalan Corporation introduced multiple colors with swirls of Bakelite in the late 20s and started producing all kinds of products by the early 30s including the bulk Bakelite used to produce the jewelry that we know today.

This bangle is probably from the mid to late 1930s to go along with the white and black trend in jewelry matching the white and black Scottie dogs popular because of Franklin Roosevelt's dog Falla.

This piece is also unusual because it has some slight separation in one of the seams between laminated parts, on the outside of the bangle, (pictures), that was apparently filled in originally at the factory. This is an extremely rare piece to have survived out of the factory. Normally pieces like this were destroyed at the factory.

Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs, this may include, the cost of packaging and postage, unless the item listing includes free shipping.

If this listing includes instructions about waiting to pay until an invoice can be created and sent to you, that means you should not pay, until you have received an invoice with the corrected amount including packaging and postage, from Ruby Lane/PayPal.

Also, I typically only ship on Wednesdays, for the time being I'm a one-man operation and that's only part-time.

Thank you for your patience

We guarantee the authenticity of everything that we sell. If we list an item as Catalan/Bakelite, we mean it is from the 1930s to the 1950s and we have tested it with Semi-chrome or some other method, and it tests positive for Bakelite.

We only sell Original Bakelite Jewelry and Collectibles from the 1930-1950s, and Lucite Jewelry from the 1940s to the 1970s. We do not sell any reworked or newly created plastic jewelry.

We recycle our packaging to try to reduce our carbon footprint, but we work diligently to safely pack and ship your item so it arrives in good condition, as you expected.

Thank you, Jamie and Ron.
