Originating from East Turkestan in 1920, this antique transitional Khotan wool rug features a distinct field design with rich and varied colors repeating throughout the piece. Hand knotted in high quality wool, the tangerine background is uniquely intercepted by a lower-third salmon pink colourway, the only deviation from the perfect vertical and horizontal symmetry of the reflected medallion and Goz protective eye motifs, framed by lavender spandrels. Additionally unique to this piece is the distinct lack of outlines before the innermost floral border, featuring the brightest variation of the golden-beige colourways in the piece and offering dimensionality to the more rustic, stylized cloud band and fretwork border; embodying the full range of colourways.
