The lovely bowl bears the Rookwood flaming mark and the number 2533 on the base. The flower frog also has the Rookwood logo and the number 1621D. Both pieces are dated 1929 (see images).
Maira Longworth Nichols founded the Rookwood Pottery of Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1880. In the early years the company produced toilet seats, pitchers, and gray stoneware but soon ventured into more artistically decorated wares. In 1899, Rookwood won a gold medal at the Universal Exposition in Paris, and went on to be one of the premier American Art Pottery companies. Rookwood went through many management changes over the years and finally closed its doors in 1967.
