Fabulous Pair Antique Old Paris Polychrome Painted Figural Candelabra in the manner of Jacob Petit. Each modelled as a troubadour and young maiden - possibly the famous 19th Century opera singers Giovanni Matteo Mario and Giulia Grisi - in brightly colored clothing on elaborate gilt decorated plinth bases. The candelabra were possibly originally scent bottles and were later modified with three light gold colored metal candle holders. Each measures 19"H to the top of the candelabra and 8 "W across the candle holder. The porcelain figures each measure approximately 13"H, 6 1/2"W, 5 1/2"D. They are in very good condition with wear to the gilt, chips to the feet (see photos) and a tight hairline crack on the plinth of the male figure. The candle holders are made for smaller tapers with the openings each measuring approximately 1/2" in diameter. Each is incised with a number in the porcelain underneath, but as is common with Old Paris, there is no maker's mark. Please see all photos.
