Fine pair of antique Old Paris porcelain figurines of a man in turban with saber and his wife or consort in veil with fan. Figurines such as these, in Turkish Ottoman dress, were made in the 19th century by French - for the Turkish market and are highly collectible today. The sultan wearing a rich cobalt blue coat trimmed in gilt measures approximately 6 1/2" in height. The woman is beautifully painted in polychrome colors, trimmed in gilt and measures approximately 6 1/4" in height. Condition is as follows: Sultana: Good Condition with minor wear to the gilt and light scratches. There are firing flaws/ cracks along waistline on the back ,missing thumb on one hand and small chip or flaw on the back hem of her skirt. Sultan: Has had extensive restoration throughout including left hand, neck area and torso near the waist, where the figure appears to have been broken in two. There is a small chip on the base at the front.
