Offered for sale is a Spalding Tournament Tennis Racket and Wooden Press from the first "Bad Boy" of professional tennis, the one and only Pancho Gonzales. During the 1950's and 1960's Gonzales smashed through the ethnic barriers abusing officials verbally and creating a new breed of bad boys in the professional tennis world. His serve was so powerful it paralyzed opponents and it inspired cries to remake the sport. Many fellow players said Pancho Gonzales play was the beginning of professional tennis as we know it today. Listed below is a description and the condition of the racket and press:
1.)The Racket---This “Pancho” Gonzales Spalding Tennis Racket with picture and signature of Pancho Gonzales. It was made in Japan. **Condition: Overall the racket is in good condition for being over 50 years old. *The grip is very clean and free of chips or tears in the leather wrapping. *The racket is solid with normal nicks on the edges from being used. *The white paint has several chips in the paint. *The red paint on the handle has two tiny chips in the red paint. *The webbing is clean and solid and unbroken. *The picture of Pancho Gonzales on the front and back of the handle is clean and bright. *Pancho's name is found on both sides of the handle.
2.)The "Press"---The wooden Press was made in the U.S.A. by Regent and sponsored by Don Bridge with his signature found on the bottom outside edge of the Press. **Condition: The Press is in very good condition with normal surface wear from being used. The four wing nuts on the corners of the Press are tarnished and can easily be replaced with new ones. Overall it's in great condition.
