1940's Shirley Temple, Deanna Durbin, Betty Grable, and Van Johnson Mystery Books
Today I'm offering for sale Four Mystery Books starring Shirley Temple, Deanna Durbin, Betty Grable, and one book about the life story of Van Johnson.
With the outbreak of WWII radio and movie stars played a major role in keeping the spirits of Americans and members of the Armed Forces entertained all throughout WWII. All four starred in numerous movies during WWII and entertained the troops overseas and at the USO’s. Listed below is each book, its condition, and a little bit about the story. Keep in mind with WWII in full swing rationing was a big part of everyday life. The paper used in all four books was called ration paper made with poor quality wood pulp because businesses weren’t allowed to use high end pulp.
1. "Van Johnson The Luckiest Guy in The World" by Elizabeth Beecher and Illustrated by Henry E. Vallely. This is a 1st edition, copyright 1947, Number 2324, and published by Whitman Publishing Company. The book has 248 pages broken down into 20 chapters along with 23 illustrations that tell the life of Van Johnson from childhood to his raise to stardom.
**Condition of Van Johnson Book: The front and back covers are in good- condition, clean with normal surface wear, edge wear and corner bumps. The inside pages are in good+ condition, clean, and tight to the spine. There is a tiny amount of medium blue stain along the top edge of the inside of the back cover and a very tiny amount of stain along the top edge of many of the inside pages. This may have been the color of the outside of the pages of the book and maybe it just spread. It is hard to tell.
The next three books are from a Series of Movie Actors Mystery Novels which consisted of 16 books published between 1941 and 1947 by Kathryn Heisenfelt with illustrations by Henry E. Vallely. Also Kathryn Heisenfelt included Ann Sheridan, Gene Tierney, Ginger Rogers, Jane Withers, Dorthy Lamour, Judy Canova, Judy Garland, and Bonita Granville, in her heroine mysteries which were enjoyed by millions of boys and girls and adults during WWII.
2. "Betty Grable and The House with The Iron Shutters", 1st edition, Number 2386, copyright 1943, by Whitman Publishing Company. The novel has 253 pages broken down into 13 action packed chapters with twists and turns as Betty tries to unravel the mystery of The House with The Iron Shutters.

I think this is left over from a larger piece that was removed.
