Today I'm offering for sale several pieces of Cowboy and Western Memorabilia including a 1959 Roy Rogers Souvenir Program and a Photo, and a 1951 Cowboy/Western Tray Puzzle. Roy Rogers, the "King of The Cowboys", and his wonderful wife, Dale Evans, was by far the most beloved and recognized western entertainer in the United States from the 1940's until his passing at the age of 99. Listed below is each item and its condition:
1.)Roy Rogers Official Souvenir Program from The Greater Allentown Fair in Allentown, Pennsylvania, from September 24th,1959. The 16 page program is packed with photos and stories about his childhood, his huge success while starring in motion pictures, radio, and television. Also, on one page the owner wrote about who they saw and that they got standing room tickets and had a great time.
**Condition: The front and back covers are in good- condition. The inside pages are in very good condition, clean. *Covers: There is surface wear, edge wear, and creases on the front and back cover. There is wear to the corners and a 1” tear at the top of the spine. *Inside pages: The center page is only attached at the top staple.
2.) A 1951 Saalfield Tray Puzzle, Number 7329, which features a cowboy rearing up on his horse. In researching this puzzle I found the number but it was of an Indian Chief and not this cowboy on a horse. Either it's Roy Rogers or just a cowboy. So I don't have the answer why the same number appeared on two different puzzles. The puzzle measures 11 1/2" x 14 1/2" with 20 pieces, some in the shape of a pair of pants, a gun, and a horseshoe.
**Condition: This puzzle is in good- condition. The puzzle was played with showing surface wear, edge wear, and some tiny tears on some of the puzzle pieces.
3. A photo of a young Roy Rogers and bride to be Dale Evans. It measures 10" x 8" and is in very good condition.
4. A copy of a young Roy Rogers with seven of his friends posing in front of an old car. I purchased the original photo many years ago from an elderly man who collected pictures of famous people.
If you were lucky to have grown up watching Roy Rogers I'm sure these items will bring back a ton of memories. Millions of little boys and girls grew up in the 1950's wearing Roy Rogers and Dale Evans outfits along with a pair of Roy Rogers’ cap guns keeping the bad guys out of their yard and capturing the bad guys before heading home for supper.
From Roy Rogers to The Lone Ranger to Hopalong Cassidy to Gene Autry, four cowboys who always preached to be good to your friends and neighbors, your family, the police, be kind to animals, eat all your food, clean your rooms, help mom and dad around the house, and please get to church and always say your prayers at bedtime and you'll grow up to be a good person.
As a little boy growing up in the 1950’s +60’s, these were my heroes and many other little boys and girls heroes. Some of today’s children find it hard to find someone special to look up to.
"To all my little cowpokes", "Happy Trails To You and May The Good Lord Take a Liken To You".
