Today I'm offering for sale eight extremely rare "Gone With The Wind" movie theatre tickets from Wednesday evening, March 13th, 1940, from the Palace Theatre of Lansford, Pennsylvania.
About 12 years ago I went to a flea market-antique mall and came across a older gentleman who was selling movie items. On his table he had numerous items from the Palace Theatre including rolls of general admission tickets, small lobby cards, up-coming movie pamphlets, and of course, these tickets. I asked how he got the items. He said he worked part time at the theatre from 1939 to 1941 and was allowed to keep anything the movie house was throwing away. He assured me that everything was authentic. So I bought these tickets and a few other items I've since sold over the years.
The 8 tickets are in near mint condition. All tickets are for the Lower Balcony, Row DD, seat numbers-4-5-6-7-8-9-10 and 12. The tickets are dated Good Only for 8 P.M., Wednesday Evening, March 13,1940. The tickets cost $1.00 plus .10 cent tax. The tickets were made by the Globe Ticket Company of Philadelphia. The tickets measure 3 1/2" x 1 1/2".
On June 22, 2006, Christie's Auction House sold Gone With The Wind items from the estate of Clark Gable. Three items were sold together and one of those items was a ticket from the Palace Theatre dated March 16,1940, Row BB, Lower Balcony, seat 3. The three items sold for $1,800.00.
If you collect "Gone With The Wind" memorabilia then these tickets could be a great addition to your personal collection. What a fantastic gift to give a friend who collects vintage movie memorabilia.
