Today I'm offering two wonderful hardcover books a youngster or a young adult would enjoy reading. Below is a description of each book and its condition:
The first is titled "Pink Donkey Brown" by Lydia Stone with illustrations by Mary E. Dwyer. This is a first edition published and copyrighted in 1925 by the Rand McNally & Company of New York and Chicago. A wonderful 80 page story about how Betty and Billy Brown wonder into a stable and see a pink sweet little donkey and fall in love with it. The owner gave the children a free ride and told them he was very very smart and was his favorite of all the donkeys he owns. They asked dad if they could take him home and he said that would be okay with him. After getting home Billy and Betty and the Pink Little Donkey begin a journey filled with adventure all around town that had family and friends smiling and laughing.
**Condition: The front and back covers are in good condition. The inside pages are in good condition. *Covers: There is light surface wear, corner bumps, and light to moderate wear along the edges. The name of the owner is written in pencil on the inside of the front cover and the inside of the back cover. *Inside pages: There are tiny small light brown stain marks on 8 pages and one inside page has a small tear along the right edge.
The second book is titled "Captain January" written by Laura E. Richards and is the third printing from 1902 by Dana Estes & Company. The first and second printings took place in 1890 and 1892. As of the third printing over 175,000 copies were sold. The story is about a lighthouse keeper who rescues a little girl off the coast of Maine and takes her in to raise her as her own. In 1934 Shirley Temple, the greatest child star of the 1930's, starred in the musical-drama "Captain January”. The movie was a huge hit and featured the famous dance routine with Shirley Temple and Buddy Ebsen (Jed Clampett of the Beverly Hillbilly Fame) called "At the Codfish Ball". The book has 6 chapters and 78 pages. This book was given as a gift on March 23rd, 1913.
**Condition: The front and back covers are in good- condition. The inside pages are in good condition. *Covers: There is soiling to the covers showing its age, corners are bumped and worn, and there is wear along the edges. *Inside pages: The past owners name is written in pencil on the first inside page, the first three pages have nearly come lose from the spine while the remaining pages are tightly secured to the spine.
