If you grew up watching Shirley Temple in the movies and TV in the 1930’s, 40’s, and 50’s, then you'll love these two wonderful Shirley Temple Books titled The Shirley Temple Treasury and Shirley Temple Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm Books. Listed below is each book and its condition:
1. The Shirley Temple Edition of "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm" by Kate Douglas Wiggin. It is published by Random House with illustrations from the motion picture featuring Shirley Temple. The book has 250 pages broken down into 27 chapters with 20 black and white photos from the movie.
**Condition: The front and back covers are in fair condition. The inside pages are in very good condition, very clean. *Covers: There is wear from rubbing to the spine and the front and back covers. There is wear to the top and bottom of the spine, wear along all the outer edges, and wear and bumps to all the corners.*Inside pages: There is a name very neatly written in blue ink and a black ink dot ¼” in diameter on the first inside page.
2. The Shirley Temple Treasury copyrighted in 1959 by Random House. The book features these stories: Heidi---The Little Colonel---Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm---and Captain January. There are illustrated drawings by Robert Patterson along with photographs from the motion pictures featuring Shirley Temple. The book has 205 pages loaded with colorful drawings and 42 photos from the four movies.
**Condition: The front and back covers are in fair condition. The inside pages are in very good condition, very clean. *Covers: There is light wear to the spine, a 1” tear near the bottom of the spine, and wear at the top and bottom of the spine. There is soiling and wear to the front and back covers, rubbing, light wear along the all the outer edges, and wear and bumps at all the corners. *Inside pages: There is wear to the inside of the front and back covers, the past owners name and date are written in pencil on the first inside page, wear to the right edge of the first inside page and to the right top corner of page 11, and a piece missing from the top right corner of page 21.
*Here's a little history about Shirley Temple: Shirley was born on April 23, 1928, and passed away on February 10, 2014. She danced and sang in her first movie in 1932 at the age of three. Her first big hit was when she starred in Bright Eyes then followed up playing in Curly Top and Heidi. From 1935 through 1938 she was the top box office star and most recognized child star all around the world. After she retired from the movies in 1951 she returned to hosting and acting in NBC new series called "Shirley Temple's Storybook".
Did you know that in 1939 director Zanuck turned down a substantial offer from MGM to have Shirley Temple star in a movie called "The Wizard of Oz"---instead she starred in Susanna of the Mounties. A young Judy Garland played Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz and would replace Shirley Temple as the new child star throughout the 1940’s and 1950’s.
