Offered for sale are Two Rare Foreign Service Magazines from March and November of 1947. The magazines are published by The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. They focused mainly on keeping veterans up to date on benefits they were entitled to and the on-going fight for benefits they should be receiving. After fighting for freedom around the world in WWII, they continually fought with crooked Politician's on both sides for fair housing, medical benefits, and assistance in finding work. And now in 2013, it seems like nothing has changed. Listed below is each magazine, some of their contents, and their condition:
1.)March 1947, Volume 34, Number 7, 40 pages, 8 1/2" wide x 11¼" long; Featured on the front is a happy couple after receiving a Western Union letter saying they finally got an apartment. After the end of WWII housing was almost impossible to find leaving soldiers and married couples living with their parents or in seedy places. The cover was painted by artist Marvin Nye who captures a very happily married couple. Also found inside are some of these articles: Story by author Robert Trout called One Soldier's Plan---Who said Vaudeville was Dead---Story by Sam Elkin called King of the Hill---Legislative Program Proposed by V.F.W.---Building Comfortable Homes for Vets---The Saga of Peanut Shea---How Sleep the Brave by Robert Woodside---POW The War in Pictures---The New Poppy Goal Campaign Justice---and A Share of Happiness.

2.)November 1947, Volume 35, Number 3, 40 pages, 8 1/2" wide x 11¼" long; Featured on the front cover is a serviceman and his wife and mother playing a big joke on him. While serving overseas one of the most consumed food, not because they asked for it, was "A Can of Spam", the soldier's steak which they ate morning, noon and night. In the picture, it's Thanksgiving Day and what is right in front of him but a can of Spam in place of the big juicy turkey he thought he was about to devour. Once again Marvin Nye captures the not-so happy surprise and the startled look on the ex-serviceman's face. Here's some of the stories found inside: Guarding the World's Greatest Secret---Get Acquainted With Your Congressmen---No Complaints---Want to Get Into Radio---We Stole MacArthur's Thunder---Above and Beyond---Resolutions Adopted by the 48th National Encampment---and Homeward Bound.
