Presenting!! Gene Autry Friendship Fan Club Newsletter, Winter Issue from 1950-51 in honor of America's Favorite Cowboy "Gene Autry". In 1938 a young lady named Dorothy (Dotty) Crouse along with her friends formed the very first Gene Autry Fan Club. Dorothy remained the president until 1955 and during those years met Gene Autry numerous times both becoming very close friends. Dorothy named the newsletter "Autry's Aces" and from that point on it was published about every three months with a special anniversary issue every year.
Today I'm offering an Autry's Aces Fan Club Newsletter dated December 1950, January, February, 1951. This is the Winter Issue and has a great photo of Gene and his Wonder Horse Champion on the cover. On the first page of the Newsletter are the names of President Dorothy Crouse, editor Berenice Olsen, and the Table of Contents. On page 5 is a full page letter from Gene to his loyal fans. This Newsletter has 28 pages and is packed with all kinds of information about Gene's movies, his personal appearances, and loads of personal letters and comments from fans all across the country. On page 28 are the dates and places of the Gene Autry Tour for 1951. Gene was one busy cowboy making 37 stops just in January and February 1951 alone.
**Condition: This Newsletter is in good+ condition, very clean and bright. There is some sun damage along the top edge of the front cover, a tiny tear at the left edge and two tiny tears along the right edge of the front cover, and a tiny to small crease mark at each of the corners of the front and back covers and at the bottom right corner of almost all of the inside pages. The back page is not attached to the inside pages.
In reading some of the fan club newsletters, it's quite evident that Gene's fans disliked Roy Rogers because when Gene enlisted in the Army during WWII he became the number two cowboy in films and they blamed the movie studio for pushing Gene out of the limelight to promote Roy Rogers' movies. Each fan club letter is filled with unconditional love toward Gene Autry. Gene always took time to praise his loyal fans through greeting them at all his rodeos and fan club conventions and writing back to his fans in the Autry Aces.
If your mom, dad or grandparent grew up in the 1940's and 1950's they may have watched Gene in the movies or on TV and might have even belonged to the Gene Autry Fan Club. I bet this Autry's Aces Newsletter would make a very nice gift and bring back many wonderful memories.
