Original 1906 "Birth of our Nation's Flag" Print by Chas. H. Weisgerber
Offered for sale is a print by Chas. H. Weisgerber from his original painting called "Birth of our Nation's Flag". This rare print was issued in 1906 by The Old Flag House, Philadelphia, Pa., in hopes of raising money for the American Flag House and the Betsy Ross Memorial Association. The money was used as a means of saving the historic house in which the great event transpired. This 4¼" wide x 3¼" long print also came in a 22" x 28" size. Each Oleograph reproduction and this one is in ten colors and suitable for framing. This print is already framed on a glass plate which measures 7 5/8" wide x 6¾" long. The print was placed on a stiff piece of paper with embossed letters under the print which read:
"George Ross, Gen'L. Washington"...."Robert Morris"........"Betty Ross, Birth of our Nation's Flag by Chas. H. Weisgerber".
On the bottom left hand corner of the print it reads "C.R.Weisgerber".
On the bottom right hand corner of the print it reads "Copyright 1906".
On the back of the glass plate is a short history of the flag and where to send for copies of his print.
**Condition of Glass; The glass plate is solid. The outside edge of the plate has dark red paper which holds the picture from falling out of the glass. The dark red paper is worn on two sides while the other three sides--the red paper is worn hard and shows the glass plate.
**Condition of Print: The Print itself is in very good condition. The first part of the matting around the print is in good condition; There is very minor soiling on the first part of the matting. The rest of the matting is in good- condition; There is what looks like dust and light soiling on the rest of the matting. The back of the print is in very good condition; The original string to mount the picture is still attached to the back.
This is your opportunity to own a rare piece of American History seen through the eyes of artist Chas. H. Weisgerber. Chas. H. Weisgerber Jr. who has the original painting is asking for $25,000 to have it restored and then to donate it to the Betty Ross House in Philadelphia, Pa.
It's amazing that a citizen of this great country could ever disgrace, burn or have it taken down in some senior citizen park because they say it may hurt someones feelings. This is a wonderful gift that should be given to a VFW or American Legion in your hometown, I'm sure they will love to place it where everyone can view it.
