In the 1950's Government Controlled Health Care or Socialized Medicine was being fought against by the vast majority of Americans and their outcry played a big part in the withdrawal of the plan by those who sponsored it in Congress and the Senate. The AMA members group in Baltimore published only 200 copies of this cartoon booklet for distribution around the city in an attempt to dramatize the unfavorable aspects of socialized medicine in a readable and entertaining way to get there point across. Obama Care passed and millions of people across the nation have become Waiting-Room Willies.
The Comic warns of the perils and taxpayer costs inherent in depending on the government for those things best left to the individual and the private sector. This extremely rare Comic is titled "The Sad Case of Waiting-Room Willie" and his attempt to get a doctor to see him when he becomes ill. The new Utopia didn't work very will, poor Willie went from doctor to doctor waiting in long lines filling out tons of paperwork only to find out he had to wait days or weeks before he could be seen. His family doctor couldn't see him until it was his turn even though he's seen Willie since he was a child. Poor Willie went on forever until he found a black market doctor and later a witch doctor to see him, but they wanted a ton of money for the visit and one single aspirin. Poor Willie if he could only go back and change the way he voted perhaps none of this government controlled medicine would has passed. The amazing thing about this simple Comic is a mirror reflection of what's going on today just as it was in the 1950's.
Way back in 2005, this same Comic Book sold for $529.00 at auction, maybe a smart politician purchased it, Ha! Ha!
