This is a stoneware storage jar made by Ira Mead of Mogadore Ohio. He was one of Ohio’s earliest potters and worked from 1830 to 1850. The jar is stamped I.M. Mead & C and has blue accents over the stamp and around the large eared lugs. It is 9 inches high with a 5 inch opening. The interior is in a dark brown glaze. There are two chips on the outer rim, 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch respectively. The opposite side to the stamp shows a hairline crack ( see last photo ). In very good antique condition.
