Antique Cast Iron Match Safe

Presenting a wonderful cast iron match safe with a distinctive cameo portrait in relief on the lid. The raised lid has a rectangular cartouche with ornamental scrollwork surrounding the portrait. The lid is beveled on three sides with further decoration. The striker is on the front side. The base has three support feet and has the impressed date of January 16 1872. Measurements are 5” wide, 3 1/4” deep and 2” high. Very remarkable condition for a cast iron match safe that is 150 years old.
