This is a lovely Antique Sterling Silver Cigarette Box from the early 1900s. It would be ideal to use to store small items in such as jewellery or cuff links.
It was made by Robert William Jay and it was Hallmarked in Birmingham in 1906.
The box has a beautifully shiny Silver exterior with the Hallmarks at the front on both the lid and base. The lid lifts to show a fully lined Cedar wood interior with two movable dividers.
There are a number of dents to the lid. There’s a chip to the wood inside between the dividers where the wood is missing. The lid closes well but it doesn’t completely sit flush with the base. This wouldn’t affect it’s use.
It weighs 443g. It measures 18cm by 9.3cm (7 1/8 inches by 3 1/2 inches). The depth is 5.2cm (just over 2 inches).
