Benjamin Youngs was a Shaker blacksmith who worked in the Watervliet, New York Shaker community between 1800-1815. This handmade iron sickle was made by him and signed with his stamp, “BY”. This tool came from a local museum and was deaccessioned years ago when I bought it, that’s why it has a museum number painted on the handle.
The original wooden handle measures 5 7/8” and the iron measures, 27” along the outside arc. There are owners initials of, “MC” branded into the handle.
I have owned this for many years in my tool collection and am selling some of my most interesting tools here on Ruby Lane. Please check the other listings and bookmark my page for future viewing!
